Trigger Warnings & Disclaimers

Shackled explores the emotional, mental, and physical aftermath of the events in Tethered, tracing how trauma reverberates through the lives of its characters. Please take a moment to read the potential triggers below. If any of these themes feel overwhelming, support networks are listed at the end of this page.

I want you to be swept up in this story - to feel deeply, to connect fiercely with these characters and their journeys. But your mental health is paramount. Please safeguard it.

Although this story is partly rooted in real history, it remains a work of fiction. Certain events, dates, and individuals have been re‑imagined or adapted to serve the narrative while still honouring the spirit of the time. Any resemblance to real people, living or dead, is coincidental.

I researched kinship adoption in the UK, including cases where a child is adopted by grandparents. For the sake of storytelling - and with a little angelic assistance - the legal process has been respectfully streamlined.

This story explores love and connection in all their forms: romantic in its many glorious expressions, as well as platonic, familial, and communal bonds that anchor us to one another.
